As one of the most authoritative and influential science competitions for middle school students in the world, the S.-T. Yau High School Science Award is supported by experts from Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Harvard University, Stanford University, etc. The Award has attracted the attention and active participation of middle schools, middle school teachers, middle school students and their parents both at home and abroad. A group of top international experts pay close attention to the Award and serve as Judges. Over the years, the S.-T. Yau High School Science Award has discovered a lot of outstanding middle school students who are interested and gifted in fundamental sciences.
Up to now, more than 10,000 teams from over 2,000 middle schools have participated in the S.-T. Yau High School Science Award, covering more than 30 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions in China as well as many overseas regions such as North America and Singapore. More than 401 teams and 750 winners have won awards. More than half of the award-winning students have been enrolled in prestigious universities such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Harvard University, MIT, Yale University, Princeton University, etc. Many of them continued to do academic research after entering ideal universities.
In 2018, approved by the Ministry of Education, Tsinghua University has officially started to enroll students from the Yau Math Talents Undergraduate Program (YMTUP). Outstanding middle school students selected by S.-T. Yau High School Science Award is an important source and reserve force of the YMTUP, and may be enrolled in YMTUP by competitive selection. YMTUP follows the cultivation mode of "leader, internationalization, emphasis on foundation and respect for individuality".
The
S.-T. Yau High School Science Award will continue to promote the development of
fundamental sciences in middle schools in China, enhance middle school
students’ interests and abilities in fundamental sciences, and provide an
effective platform for students’ talents and future development.
